Wiggins to be available for all games this season after getting vaccinated
Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins has been vaccinated, head coach Steve Kerr announced.
"Andrew got vaccinated. He just told me today that he was fine with us acknowledging it, and that will be the end of it," Kerr said, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell.
Wiggins will now be available to play in all games this season as a result, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. He previously applied for a religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine, which the NBA later denied.
The Canadian wing would have been unable to play in any Warriors home games this campaign if he had remained unvaccinated. He would've violated the San Francisco Department of Public Health's proof of vaccination requirements for large indoor events, which will take effect Oct. 13.
Wiggins could've also potentially lost out on half of his $31.6-million salary for the 2021-22 season if he had missed all 41 home contests.
As of Sept. 30, 95% of NBA players have apparently received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Reportedly, 90% of players were already fully vaccinated as of Sept. 23.
Golden State hosts the Los Angeles Clippers in the team's home opener on Oct. 21.
