Dennis Schroder won't be able to wear his usual No. 17 with the Boston Celtics, so he's letting fans decide his new jersey number.
The new Celtics point guard narrowed his choice down to five numbers - Nos. 8, 71, 80, 84, or 96 - and he's asking fans to vote for their favorite through his app, DS17. Fans get until Friday to cast their votes.
Schroder, who's a fan of the Eintracht Braunschweig soccer club in his native Germany, noted that he isn't particularly fond of No. 96 due to its connection to rival club Hannover 96.
The Celtics retired No. 17 - which Schroder has worn since entering the NBA in 2013 - in honor of John Havlicek. Schroder would be the first Celtics player to wear No. 71, 80, 84, or 96.
