Raptors acquire Achiuwa, Dragic in exchange for Lowry

The Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat have officially completed a sign-and-trade deal centered around six-time All-Star Kyle Lowry, the Heat announced.

Miami is sending forward Precious Achiuwa and guard Goran Dragic to Toronto in exchange for the star guard.

"Kyle Lowry is a great leader and an exceptional defender. As a point guard, he will bring important skills to run the offense, score the ball, and defend with the very best," Heat president Pat Riley said in a team statement.

As part of the sign-and-trade pact, Lowry has agreed to a fully-guaranteed three-year, $85-million contract with Miami, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Lowry is coming off another strong season with the Raptors. The floor general averaged 17.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.4 rebounds in 34.8 minutes across 46 starts.

Dragic averaged 13.4 points and 4.4 assists in 50 games as the Heat's primary sixth man, while Achiuwa posted five points and 3.4 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game as a rookie last campaign.

The 35-year-old is set to earn $19.4 million during the 2021-22 season. Achiuwa, 21, will earn $2.7 million this coming year before Toronto has the choice to exercise team options on his rookie contract for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.

Lowry's addition is the latest significant transaction in a busy offseason for Miami. The Heat's major moves include re-signing sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, reportedly bringing back former All-Star guard Victor Oladipo, and apparently adding defensive specialist P.J. Tucker on a two-year deal. The club is also expected to sign franchise star Jimmy Butler to a four-year, $184-million extension.
