Svechkov played in a Russian pro league against men over the past year and managed to hold his own. That's typically a good sign for a draft prospect who also had a solid tournament at the U18 worlds. Svechkov could be the best defensive forward in this year's draft class, as he's shown superb two-way skills as a centerman at every level he's played at.

He may not be as flashy as some of the other players that'll go in the first round, but Svechkov can make an impact whenever he steps on the ice. He's a versatile forward in all aspects of the game and has shown he can be trusted on the penalty kill and power play.

What they're saying

"Svechkov can create for his teammates and shows half-wall playmaking ability to go with the plays he can make at pace," writes The Athletic's Corey Pronman. "Off the puck, he’s physical, responsible defensively, and killed penalties at the VHL level."

"Svechkov brings a blend of high-end offensive skill and responsible two-way play, with his overall game skewing more toward the latter," writes Sportsnet's Sonny Sachdeva.
