The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired netminder Dylan Wells from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for future considerations, the teams announced Wednesday.
Wells spent most of the 2020-21 season on the Oilers' taxi squad. He saw no game action at the NHL or AHL level.
The 23-year-old split the 2019-20 campaign between the AHL's Bakersfield Condors and the ECHL's Wichita Thunder, posting a sub-.900 save percentage in 17 total games across both leagues.
As a pending restricted free agent, Wells will be eligible for selection in the upcoming expansion draft if he is tendered his qualifying offer within the next week.
The Oilers selected Wells in the fifth round of the 2016 draft.
