Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner has waived his no-movement clause so the team will not be obligated to protect him in the upcoming expansion draft, his agent Don Meehan told The Athletic's John Vogl.
Meehan said he and Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams discussed waiving the clause Tuesday and that Skinner agreed after speaking with Meehan.
The 29-year-old winger has six seasons left on an eight-year deal that carries a $9-million annual cap hit, making him an unlikely target for the Seattle Kraken.
Skinner had a strong first season with the Sabres in 2018-19, enjoying his first 40-goal campaign. But he's struggled in the two years since signing a new contract with Buffalo. He mustered just 14 points in 53 games this season and was a healthy scratch for three straight contests in February.
With the Sabres projected to protect seven forwards and three defensemen in the Seattle expansion draft later in July, they'll now be able to protect another forward such as Rasmus Asplund, Zemgus Girgensons, or Kyle Okposo.
