Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson is switching jersey numbers for his first season in Minnesota, swapping out No. 21 for No. 7, which he wore at LSU.
Peterson had to pay up for No. 7, though, as the number belonged to second-year quarterback Nate Stanley. In exchange for the number, Peterson agreed to donate new shoulder pads to the football program at Stanley's alma mater, Menomonie High School in Wisconsin, according to Eric Smith of Vikings.com.
Peterson, who spent the first 10 years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals, revealed his new number Sunday during an appearance on the "All Things Covered" podcast.

The NFL approved a rule change on jerseys Wednesday that will allow players a wider range of numbers to choose from. Defensive backs can now wear jersey numbers between 1-49 after being limited to 20-49 previously.
