DeAngelo clears waivers after reported altercation with Rangers teammate

New York Rangers defenseman Anthony DeAngelo cleared waivers Monday, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

DeAngelo got into an altercation with netminder Alexandar Georgiev following the club's 5-4 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, multiple sources told The Athletic's Rick Carpiniello.

Rangers head coach David Quinn refused to address the report and said the decision was not made based on one incident.

"There’s always rumors, as you know," Quinn said, according to Carpiniello. "I’m not going to address rumors. This isn’t about one incident. It’s not about one thing. It’s a situation the organization felt was best at this current time, and we’ll see how the situation plays out."

DeAngelo was scratched for a pair of games earlier this season and amassed one assist through six contests while logging 18:29 of average ice time per game.

The 5-foot-11 blue-liner finished tied for fourth in both goals (15) and points (53) among all defensemen in 2019-20.

New York signed the 25-year-old to a two-year, $9.6-million contract in October.
