Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil might get a chance to play this season after all.
Ozil, who has not played for Arsenal since March 2020, is hopeful of sealing a move to Turkey until the end of the season after opening talks with Fenerbahce over a potential loan deal, according to Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian.
But Arsenal will reportedly only sign off on a deal as long as it's agreed that they won't be responsible for the German midfielder's salary - worth £350,000 a week - while he's in Turkey.
Fenerbahce are apparently trying to navigate that obstacle as they hope to add Ozil during the January transfer window.
D.C. United of Major League Soccer were also said to be interested, but Ozil would prefer to go to the Super Lig, Romano adds.
The 32-year-old Ozil, who is free to speak with other clubs as he only has six months left on his contract, was left off Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League squad this season in a clear indication that he no longer had a future with the club.
Manager Mikel Arteta said Thursday that he's hopeful that Ozil's future will be resolved in the coming days and that parting with the German this month could be "the best solution" for Arsenal.
