Saints' Davis: Brees efficient as ever, motivated by naysayers

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis believes the criticism directed at Drew Brees this season has only served to motivate the quarterback.

Davis came to Brees' defense in an interview with TMZ Sports, saying the 41-year-old is playing as well as he ever has.

"That's interesting to me that there can be naysayers," Davis said. "First of all, I think the more naysayers the better, because it only motivates him. So you're just fueling him when you talk negatively - it gives him motivation. You can see him channeling it.

"Secondly, I don't know where the negative feedback would be coming from. People just look at the numbers. He's been as efficient this year as he's ever been. And when you look at somebody who's able to do that week in, week out, go out there and be that efficient, you know, if I'm putting together a roster, that's the type of quarterback that I want."

Brees got off to a rocky start this season but has since turned things around. Through eight games, he's completed 74% of his passes for 2,120 yards with 17 touchdowns to three interceptions.
