Fantasy football was big distraction during filming of 'The Office'
Filming during the NFL season created some issues on the set of "The Office."
As detailed in a recent piece by Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports, several cast and crew members from the hit sitcom were involved in a competitive fantasy football league that still exists today. Some people took fantasy football so seriously that they would use computers on set to read NFL news or set their lineups.
"So many times during football season the directors would say, 'Guys, you've got to turn your screens off,'" said actor Stephen Saux, a stand-in on the show for eight years. "They would get a little upset about fantasy football sometimes. They'd be like, 'We're trying to make a TV show here.'"
The 12-person league includes John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Brian Baumgartner. Ed Helms also joined the league but was kicked out after one season because he wasn't competitive enough.
"He would have an injured quarterback as his starter for weeks," recalled Mike Bertolina, who oversaw the props used on the show. "We were like, 'What are you doing? It's deteriorating the league! You've got to get into it!' He didn't care the way the rest of us did."
The league held its latest draft in a video chat this past weekend, with Baumgartner selecting first overall. He claims this year's team is the best he's ever had.
