Ron Rivera reveals cancer diagnosis
Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera revealed to ESPN's Adam Schefter that he's been diagnosed with squamous cell cancer after a self-check.
Rivera shared the news with his team Thursday. He's been told the form of cancer is "very treatable and curable."
"I was stunned. But I was angry because I feel like I'm in the best health I've been in," Rivera said to Schefter.
Rivera agreed to join Washington on Jan. 1, signing a five-year deal.
The team has a plan B in place should Rivera be unavailable, but he hopes that isn't necessary.
"I'm planning on coaching. Doctors encouraged me to do it, too," Rivera said. "They said, 'If you feel strongly, do it. Don't slow down, do your physical activities.' But everyone keeps telling me by Week 3 or 4, you'll start feeling it."
Stephanie, Christopher, Courtney and I thank you ALL for your love and support. https://t.co/FRESjLqpoz
