Report: Lille close to signing Canadian star David from Gent for €30M
Jonathan David is set to become the most expensive Canadian player of all time as Lille inch closer to signing the Gent forward for a club-record fee.
The 20-year-old is expected to be unveiled next week after Gent and Lille reached a verbal agreement on a €30-million fee, sources told Kristian Jack of TSN.
David finished last season with 18 goals and eight assists in 27 league appearances.
The reported bid eclipses the $13.5-million (€11.3-million) fee that Bayern Munich paid to sign Alphonso Davies from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018. The fee that Bayern paid, however, could rise to $22 million (€18.5 million) if performance-related bonuses are achieved.
The offer also represents a club-record bid for Lille, surpassing the €20.74 million the Ligue 1 side paid last summer to sign Victor Osimhen. He joined Napoli at the end of July for €50 million.
