The Jets announced at the start of the second period that Scheifele wouldn't return.
Scheifele ranked second on the team with 29 goals and tied for first with 73 points during the regular season.
The 27-year-old has spent his entire nine-year career with the Jets, who drafted him seventh overall in 2011.
