Report: NBA's young stars discussing league-financed insurance policies

Some of the NBA's young stars had a call with the National Basketball Players Association on Friday to discuss creating league-financed insurance policies, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The policies would protect against career-threatening injuries players could suffer once the league resumes at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando next month, Wojnarowski adds.

Bam Adebayo, De'Aaron Fox, Kyle Kuzma, Donovan Mitchell, and Jayson Tatum - all five of whom are up for rookie extensions beginning at the start of free agency - participated in the discussion with NBPA director Michele Roberts.

The reported request for insurance allowances is the latest in a growing list of hurdles the players' union and the league need to overcome before the planned resumption of the 2019-20 season.

The two parties are reportedly also working on a provision that would allow players to opt out of participating in the league's restart if they choose. However, those individuals would lose out on their salaries for the remainder of the season.
