LeBron James' investment in Beats Electronics was apparently more lucrative than anyone knew.

On the latest episode of NBC Sports Bay Area's "Runnin' Plays: A Golden State Warriors Podcast," former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins divulged that James made hundreds of millions of dollars from his stake in Beats, which dates back to 2008.

"Nobody even knows about when Dr. Dre got that big contract for the Beats by Dre, when they wrote him that check, LeBron James got $700 million off of that," Perkins said. "He was a silent investor in the Beats and nobody knows this."

ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein reported in 2014 that James made more than $30 million in cash and stock as part of Apple's $3-billion purchase of Beats Electronics.

Perkins described his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate as "the chosen one in life" and said he would often tell James he hated him because "everything you touch turns into gold."

James topped Forbes' list of the highest-paid NBA players for the 2019-20 season with an estimated $92.4 million in total earnings, including $55 million from endorsements.
