Report: Mourinho pushing Spurs to challenge Dortmund for Meunier

Thomas Meunier should have plenty of intriguing offers to choose from if Paris Saint-Germain don't bring him back to the Parc des Princes this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign the right-back after manager Jose Mourinho contacted Meunier directly earlier this week, according to Julien Laurens of ESPN FC.

Meunier was reportedly flattered after a long chat on the phone with Mourinho, who apparently warned the full-back that a potential move to north London would be dependent on authorization from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

The 28-year-old reportedly tops Mourinho's list of right-back targets, but convincing Levy to sign off on the move could prove difficult; the Spurs chairman is eager to lower the average age of the squad.

News of Tottenham's interest comes after Meunier reportedly agreed to join Borussia Dortmund once his contract with PSG expires in June. But the Belgian international expressed desire earlier in April to prolong his stay in the French capital despite reports that PSG aren't expected to offer him a new deal.

Meunier joined PSG from Club Brugge in 2016. He appeared in 16 Ligue 1 matches this season before the campaign was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
