Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol six months after suffering a head injury, a source told Ben Standig of The Athletic.

The news comes just two days after Redskins head coach Ron Rivera said the veteran has yet to be cleared.

Washington is still expected to release Reed after he missed the 2019 season, Standig adds.

The 29-year-old has an extensive concussion history, which includes seven documented head injuries in the NFL and two more in college.

A talented offensive weapon when healthy, Reed has missed 29 games over the last three years due to various ailments.
