The United States' strong two-way play was on full display in a decisive 3-1 win over Russia on Sunday.
The Americans dominated on both sides of the puck from the start. When Arthur Kaliyev took a double-minor slashing penalty early in the first period, the U.S. and goaltender Spencer Knight stood tall and killed off both power-plays with ease.
The game remained scoreless until Kaliyev and Nicholas Robertson combined to score two goals in six seconds at the end of the second period.
Kaliyev added another goal in the opening minutes of the third to put the U.S. in the driver's seat. Two minutes later, Alexander Romanov broke through for the Russians to cut the lead to two, but that's as close as they'd get.
Trevor Zegras added two assists, bringing his tournament points total to seven, which is tied for first among all players.
With its second win of the tournament, the U.S. now sits first in its group. The Americans will close out their preliminary round against the Czech Republic on Monday.
