Ian McDiarmid: Belichick pulls off Palpatine look but 'ought to wear black'
"Star Wars" actor Ian McDiarmid has given his seal of approval to the Bill Belichick-Emperor Palpatine memes.
McDiarmid was asked about the comparisons between his character and the notoriously gruff New England Patriots head coach at the premiere of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" earlier this week. The Scottish actor admitted he isn't a big NFL fan but agreed that Belichick has the Palpatine look down well.
"It's a pretty good impersonation, but he ought to wear black," McDiarmid told Ryan Parker of The Hollywood Reporter. "That's the only criticism I have."
Happy 72nd birthday to Ian McDiarmid, who, brilliantly, based Emperor Palpatine off @Patriots Coach Bill Belichick. pic.twitter.com/1XEUMp1qZg

McDiarmid has portrayed Palpatine in six of the nine Skywalker saga movies.
