The Sacramento Kings joined inmates at California's Folsom State Prison for a game of pickup basketball Thursday night.
The game was the first of several NBA "Play For Justice" events organized by the Represent Justice Campaign. Players were divided into teams coached by the Kings' Marvin Bagley III and Trevor Ariza, and bleachers were set up to accommodate about 300 spectators, according to Cameron Salerno of the Sacramento Bee.
"We love and appreciate you guys for letting us in your space," Ariza told the crowd at halftime. "No matter what happens or no matter how much time you have, there's always an opportunity to get back. You guys are loved and not forgotten about."
Bagley also expressed appreciation for the experience.
"It was great to be here and listen to some of the people's stories," he said. "Basketball is not going to be forever and I'm a person first. If we all continue to love each other and show positivity to everyone, the world would be a better place."
An unforgettable day for the squad at Folsom State Prison.
