Green wants to be with Bengals long term, sides negotiating new deal
As he nears a return from his ankle injury, star wide receiver A.J. Green reiterated his desire to remain with the Cincinnati Bengals long term, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
Prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, rumors circulated that Green could be on the move as the Bengals enter a rebuild, but the team ultimately said it won't trade the perennial Pro Bowler.
The 31-year-old added that his preseason injury put a halt to contract negotiations, but confirmed the two sides have reentered discussions, per Dehner.
Green also noted he would prefer not to be slapped with the franchise tag this offseason if a new agreement isn't reached in 2019.
The veteran wideout has yet to suit up this year. He's aiming to return against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10 after the Bengals' bye.
