Every week, we'll be covering the NFL's most significant injuries and how they're affecting numbers in the betting market. Here's the outlook for Week 4:
Note: Players status are as of Friday afternoon.
Cam Newton, QB Panthers (foot)
Status: Out
The Panthers opened as 2.5-point favorites over the Cardinals in Week 3 prior to Newton being ruled out with a foot injury. The line swung to Arizona -2.5, but it didn't matter. Backup quarterback Kyle Allen stepped in and led the Panthers to their first win of the season, throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns in a convincing 38-20 win. Allen is gearing up for his second start of the year Sunday against the Texans and has seen some respect in the market. Houston opened -4, climbed to -5 during the week, but dropped back down to -4, where the spread stood as of Friday. There was a huge adjustment made in Week 3 with the quarterback swap; not so much this time around, as Allen has looked comfortable leading Carolina's offense.
Denzel Ward, CB Browns (hamstring)
Ward could be slated to miss his second straight game. In fact, the Browns' secondary as a whole has been banged up. Ward, safety Morgan Burnett (quad), and cornerback Greedy Williams (hamstring) were all non-participants in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, putting their statuses in flux for Week 4 at Baltimore. A brand-new rotation in the secondary was aided by home-field advantage last week against the Rams in a narrow loss, but it'll be a different story Sunday. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson looks primed for a run at MVP and is throwing the ball deep down the field plenty this season. Baltimore is a 6.5-point favorite with the total at 45.5. If the second-string defensive backfield has to go again - this time on the road against a revamped offense - the total is the play here.
Case Keenum, QB Redskins (foot)
Status: Probable
Keenum was in a walking boot as recently as Wednesday, though he should be good to go Sunday. And despite a five-turnover game Monday night against the Bears, Keenum is still the Redskins' starter heading forward ... for now.
The veteran hasn't been the be-all, end-all for the 0-3 team, but he's been perfect in one regard: The Redskins are 3-0 to the over this season, thanks to a porous secondary and Keenum constantly being put in passing situations. Washington is a three-point underdog at the Giants this weekend, with the total bumped up from 47.5 to 49.
T.Y. Hilton, WR Colts (quad)
Status: Doubtful
Hilton suffered a quad injury in the closing seconds of the first half last week against the Falcons. His setback is unfortunate, too, because the Raiders are allowing 9.2 yards per completion to opposing wide receivers this season. Indianapolis is laying 6.5 points to Oakland, with the total at 45.5.
Josh Rosen, QB Dolphins (elbow)
Status: Probable
Rosen showed some flashes in last week's start against the Cowboys. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury to his throwing elbow, but he was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday. The Dolphins' offense, whether it be Rosen or Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, has been lifeless this season. Miami has scored a grand total of 16 points in three games so far. To make matters worse, wide receiver Allen Hurns hasn't practiced this week after suffering a concussion. Miami's catching 16.5 points at home to the Chargers in Week 4, with the total settling at 44.5.
