A Portsmouth supporter was arrested after swinging a punch at a police horse following Tuesday's derby between Pompey and Southampton, according to Ben Fisher of the Guardian.
The fan fled from a police officer riding the horse before he was apprehended by several officers near Fratton Park, where Southampton beat Portsmouth 4-0 in the Carabao Cup - the first meeting between the two south-coast rivals in seven years.
"A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and attempted criminal damage," police said in a statement.
In 2013, a Newcastle United supporter was sent to jail for one year and banned from attending football matches in the United Kingdom for six years after he punched a police horse.
