Thomas starts 'Birdies for the Bahamas' campaign for hurricane relief

Justin Thomas announced a campaign called "Birdies for the Bahamas" on Friday after Hurricane Dorian devastated the Caribbean country earlier this week.

On top of his initial donation to Convoy of Hope's relief efforts, Thomas pledged to donate $1,000 for every birdie he makes in 2019 and challenged fellow PGA Tour pros to do the same.

Thomas has frequented Baker's Bay Golf and Ocean Club on the islet of Great Guana Cay, which he's visited with Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth. The course was directly in the path of the storm, according to Jason Lusk of Golfweek.

Dustin Johnson - who recently underwent knee surgery - also posted about helping the relief efforts on Instagram.

Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas on Sept. 1 with sustained winds of 185 mph and gusts over 200 mph. As of midday Friday, the death toll is up to 30 with hundreds still missing, according to Madeline Holcombe and Dakin Andone of CNN.
