Tennessee is rallying around a young student after he was bullied for wearing a homemade Volunteers shirt.

Laura Snyder, an elementary school teacher in Tallahassee, Florida, wrote in a Facebook post that the student wanted to represent Tennessee for "College Colors Day," but since he didn't own a Vols shirt, he made his own.

"We discussed that he could wear an orange shirt to show his spirit," Snyder wrote. "He told me every day leading up to it that he had an orange shirt that he was going to wear. So when the day finally arrived, he was SO EXCITED to show me his shirt. I was impressed that he took it one step further to make his own label. After lunch, he came back to my room, put his head on on his desk and was crying. Some girls at the lunch table next to his (who didn't even participate in college colors day) had made fun of his sign that he had attached to his shirt. He was DEVASTATED."

Tennessee's football team and the VolShop got word of Snyder's post and have partnered to send some gear to the boy and his classmates.

"As a marketing and fan experience guy, I absolutely love the creativity that he showed there," Jimmy Delaney, associate athletics director for marketing and fan experience at Tennessee, told Ryan Wilusz of the Knoxville News Sentinel. "I think he will go from making his own T-shirts to now being the envy of the school. And the fact that it's in SEC country is a good thing."
