Colts sign Hoyer to reported 3-year, $12M deal
The Indianapolis Colts found their No. 2 quarterback.
Brian Hoyer inked a deal with Indianapolis to back up Jacoby Brissett, the team announced Monday.
The veteran signed a three-year, $12-million pact, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The contract includes $9 million in guaranteed money, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
In the wake of Andrew Luck's shock retirement, the Colts only had Brissett, Chad Kelly, and Phillip Walker on the roster.
Kelly impressed in the preseason but is suspended for the first two games and Walker was moved to the practice squad as part of the cutdown to 53 players, so Indy was in desperate need of an experienced option behind its new starter.
Hoyer was recently released by the New England Patriots after two seasons, his second stint serving as Tom Brady's backup.
The 33-year-old also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers over a 10-year career.
Hoyer has made 36 starts since 2013.
