Free-agent forward Carmelo Anthony is expected to join the New York Knicks' informal five-on-five scrimmages at Columbia University on Thursday, league sources told Sports Illustrated's Jake Fischer.

The scrimmages will also reportedly feature former Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies center Hasheem Thabeet.

Anthony spent seven seasons with the Knicks from 2011-2017 but his tenure with the team ended on a sour note; the 10-time All-Star requested a trade following multiple conflicts with then-team president Phil Jackson and was later dealt to the Thunder.

The 35-year-old admitted in July his NBA future was in doubt but insisted he still deserved a spot in the league. He said he'd welcome a return in any capacity, including a bench role.

Anthony last appeared in an NBA game Nov. 8 with the Houston Rockets before the team informed Anthony it was moving on. He was eventually traded to the Chicago Bulls and subsequently waived.
