Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died Tuesday from injuries he suffered during a fight Friday, his trainer Buddy McGirt and strength and conditioning coach Donatas Janusevicius told ESPN.

Dadashev, 28, was taken to a hospital following his 11th-round loss to Subriel Matias and underwent a two-hour surgery because of brain swelling. He was later put into a medically induced coma.

The previously undefeated boxer suffered a brain bleed on his right side and was showing signs of brain damage, his neurosurgeon revealed Saturday.

McGirt threw in the towel after urging his fighter to stop.

Dadashev required assistance while leaving the ring after taking a disproportionate amount of punishment from Matias before the bout was called off.
