Report: Ellis, Stoudemire to hold private workout for NBA teams
Despite being out of the NBA for multiple seasons, Monta Ellis and Amar'e Stoudemire are set to hold a private workout in Las Vegas next week as they launch bids for an NBA comeback, a source told ESPN's Jordan Schultz.
At least five teams will reportedly be in attendance for the July 8 session to gauge the current conditions of the former NBA mainstays.
Ellis will turn 34 in October and has not appeared in a league game since spending the 2016-17 season with the Indiana Pacers. Over 12 campaigns, the 6-foot-3 score-first guard averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting 31.4 percent from 3-point territory.
Stoudemire's layoff has been even longer. The five-time All-NBA selection hasn't appeared in the world's top league since 2015-16 with the Miami Heat, with whom he averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in just under 15 minutes per game. The 2002-03 Rookie of the Year will turn 37 in November.
He has, however, plied his trade a number of lower-level circuits, including a stint with Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem B.C. in 2016-17. Stoudemire is currently playing his second season in the BIG3, where he's averaged 22 points and eight rebounds per appearance to date.
The veteran players are reportedly hoping to land with a contending team for the 2019-20 season.
