76ers sign Horford to 4-year, $109M deal following Butler move

Following the reported sign-and-trade of Jimmy Butler to the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers poached Al Horford from the Boston Celtics, inking the former All-Star to a four-year, $109-million contract, his agent Jason Glushon told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Earlier this month, Horford declined a player option worth $30.1 million to remain with the Celtics for the 2019-20 season. That decision has paid off, as his new deal will reportedly see the 33-year-old receive $97 million in guaranteed salary with an additional $12 million in bonuses linked to whether the team wins a title.

The Celtics reportedly offered Horford a four-year deal, but with less guaranteed money.

In a three-year stint with the Celtics, Horford averaged 13.5 points, seven rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game with 38.2 percent shooting from 3-point territory. During the 2017-18 season, the Dominican Republic-born big man was selected to his fifth career All-Star Game and earned All-Defensive second team honors.
