Indianapolis Colts owner and noted collector Jim Irsay set a new record after spending nearly $4 million on a guitar owned by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.
Irsay purchased a 1969 black Fender Stratocaster known as "The Black Strat" at the David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction for $3.975 million, according to David Lindquist of the Indianapolis Star. The price broke a previous auction record of $2.7 million, which someone paid for a Stratocaster in 2005.
Gilmour's guitar was used on the recordings of several iconic Pink Floyd albums, including 1973's "The Dark Side of the Moon," 1975's "Wish You Were Here," and 1979's "The Wall."

Irsay also bought the travel case for "The Black Strat" for $175,000 and a 1969 Martin D-35 acoustic guitar for $1.095 million at the auction, bringing his total purchases to $5.245 million.
All proceeds from the auction support ClientEarth, an environmental law organization.
