Manchester City have made Atletico Madrid aware they're willing to trigger the €70-million release clause in Rodri's contract, according to Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian.

It's understood that Rodri - who allegedly informed Atletico of his desire to leave - and City officials will meet to negotiate a contract in order to make the move official, according to Romano.

If City are successful in their pursuit of Rodri, the 22-year-old midfielder will be viewed as the ideal candidate to be the long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

However, if talks are unsuccessful, Bayern Munich could emerge as the favorites to sign the Spain international, Romano adds.

City are also reportedly in advanced negotiations with Juventus regarding the signing of right-back Joao Cancelo, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.

Although the defending Premier League champions are expected to pay around £45 million for the Portuguese international, Juventus have insisted they include add-ons in the deal that could take the overall fee to £54 million.

Cancelo's likely arrival comes ahead of reported plans to announce that Kyle Walker - who'll be in direct competition for playing time at right-back with the 25-year-old - has signed a new two-year contract with City.

Meanwhile, Atletico have identified Marcos Llorente from rivals Real Madrid as a potential replacement for Rodri.

Atletico are also on the verge of completing a €120-million transfer to sign Portuguese wunderkind Joao Felix, 19, from Benfica.
