Eriksen wants to leave Tottenham to 'try something new'
Christian Eriksen said he's ready for another challenge, stoking rumors that he'll leave Tottenham this summer.
"I feel that I am at the stage of my career where I would like to try something new," Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law. "I have the deepest respect for everything that is happening at Tottenham and it would not be something negative to stay. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.
"I hope that something will be decided this summer. That is the plan."
Long linked with Real Madrid, Eriksen admitted a move to the 13-time European champions would be a "step up." But the 27-year-old emphasized there's been no contact between the clubs.
Spurs are willing to sell Eriksen for £130 million, the Guardian's David Hytner reports. It's a significant fee for a player who has only one year remaining on his contract.
However, the playmaker indicated he could extend his stay in north London if no suitable offers arrive.
"It all depends on (club chairman) Daniel Levy, and there has to be another club too," Eriksen said, according to Law. "Or I will sit down myself at the table and negotiate a new contract."
Tottenham also expect to receive bids for Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, and Toby Alderweireld, according to Law, in what could be a turbulent summer for the club.
