The oldest and longest race in the Triple Crown series, the Belmont Stakes, will take place this weekend at Belmont Park in New York.

Though there won't be a Triple Crown winner this year, there should be a solid betting handle for the race. Here's everything you need to know before getting in on the action.

Odds

Post Horse Odds
10 Tacitus 3-2
9 War of Will 5-2
3 Master Fencer 10-1
5 Bourbon War 12-1
2 Everfast 12-1
8 Intrepid Heart 12-1
6 Spinoff 16-1
7 Sir Winston 18-1
4 Tax 18-1
1 Joevia 33-1

Historical betting trends

- Only seven favorites over the previous 33 years have won the Belmont Stakes.

- Six of the previous seven and 16 of the last 21 horses to win the Belmont Stakes also ran in the Kentucky Derby. That bodes well for Tacitus, War of Will, Master Fencer, Spinoff, and Tax.

- In four of the last five years without a Triple Crown winner, a horse who ran in the Run for the Roses but skipped the Preakness Stakes has won at Belmont. Tacitus, Master Fencer, Spinoff, and Tax all fit that mold.

- Historically, the best post position in the Belmont Stakes has been No. 1, which has produced 23 wins since 1905. The next best have been post Nos. 3 and 5, which have yielded 15 winners each.

Jockey notes

- Jose Lezcano, who'll be riding long-shot Joevia, hasn't finished better than fourth in four tries at Belmont.

- Master Fencer jockey Julian Leparoux has raced in the Belmont Stakes five times, recording a pair of third-place finishes.

- Jose Irad Jr., who'll be riding Tax, won the 2016 Belmont Stakes with Creator and finished third last year aboard Hofburg.

- Mike Smith will be tasked with leading Bourbon War to a win on Saturday. The decorated jockey has made 20 starts in the Belmont Stakes, producing three wins with a couple more second- and third-place finishes on his ledger.

- Spinoff jockey Javier Castellanos is gearing up for his 13th appearance at Belmont and has been in the mix, registering three second-place finishes.

- John Velazquez, who'll be aboard Intrepid Heart, has placed in the top 3 in seven of his 22 career appearances in the Belmont Stakes, including a pair of first-place finishes.
