With the 17th pick in the 2019 MLB amateur draft, the Washington Nationals selected Jackson Rutledge, a junior college pitcher out of Texas.

Rutledge transferred to San Jacinto Junior College after the Arkansas Razorbacks didn't include him on their postseason roster during his freshman year.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore touches 99 with his fastball and was recently named one of the 25 semifinalists for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.

MLB.com money quote: "Rutledge pitches at 94-to-97 mph and reaches 99 with his fastball, showing the ability to carry premium velocity into the late innings ... His upper-80s slider can be a wipeout pitch with depth and his low-80s curveball can be a plus offering with 12-6 break when at their best, though they aren't always reliable weapons and can play closer to average."
