With the 21st pick in the 2019 MLB amateur draft, the Atlanta Braves selected Braden Shewmake, a junior shortstop from Texas A&M.

Shewmake started his stellar collegiate career as a second baseman before moving to shortstop as a sophomore. In 2017, he was named a first-team All-American and won National Freshman of the Year while helping the Aggies reach the College World Series.

As a junior, Shewmake started all 59 of the Aggies' games and hit .444 in the SEC tournament.

MLB.com money quote: "His outstanding hand-eye coordination allows Shewmake to put the bat on the ball with ease. A left-handed hitter who's a bit unorthodox at the plate, he tends to get caught out on his front foot but still has the dexterity to slap singles to the opposite field. He also has the bat speed and leverage in his still-projectable 6-foot-4 frame to turn on balls, hinting at average power in his future."
