Bills GM blasts 'garbage' Ansah-Seahawks report
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane confirmed his interest Wednesday in signing Ezekiel Ansah and took exception to a report claiming the Seattle Seahawks are the top candidates to get him.
"We're still in talks with him and his agent," Beane said during a radio appearance on 1270 The Fan, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak. "Everything has been very good. All I'll say about (the Seahawks) reports is I don't buy into that garbage, especially when I consider where some of the sourcing comes from."
Ansah is the top edge rusher remaining in free agency. He had four sacks in seven games during an injury-riddled 2018 campaign but posted 12 sacks in 14 outings the year prior.
Shoulder surgery early in the offseason led to a slower market for Ansah in March and April.
The report pegging Seattle as Ansah's most likely destination surfaced earlier Wednesday and came from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Rapoport incited chaos in Buffalo a couple of months ago when he reported that the Bills were finalizing a trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown.
"I don't know where it came from," Beane said of the Ansah report. "Maybe it is fact. From the people I talked to that represent, they don't see it as fact. Time will tell. ... Certain people have been wrong more than they're right and I think it’s a poor job that they've done."
Ansah spent the first six seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions. He turns 30 on May 29.
