Neymar's comments following Paris Saint-Germain's elimination from the Champions League last week prompted a disciplinary investigation from UEFA Wednesday.

The Brazilian took to Instagram to rant about the controversial VAR decision that awarded Manchester United a penalty, a call that proved to be the decisive factor in knocking PSG out of the tournament.

A statement from UEFA read: "A disciplinary investigation has been initiated based on Article 31(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations in connection with the statements made by Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior following the above-mentioned match."

Neymar had to be restrained from confronting match officials following the 3-1 defeat before posting an Instagram story that read: "This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.

"There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back?! Go f*** yourselves!"

The outburst could result in a suspension if the European governing body applies a similar punishment to the one-match suspension Dejan Lovren received in January for comments made on social media.
