Free-agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is expected to re-sign with the New Orleans Saints despite having a larger offer on the table from the Miami Dolphins, a source told NFL Network's Jane Slater.

Bridgewater apparently favors the prospect of eventually taking over for Drew Brees in New Orleans once the veteran quarterback retires and also values the Saints' locker room culture, Slater added.

The former first-round pick was Brees' backup in 2018 after being acquired from the New York Jets. Bridgewater then made his first start since 2015 in the season finale after New Orleans locked up home-field advantage in the NFC playoff bracket.

After being drafted 32nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, the 26-year-old Bridgewater missed the entire 2016 season following a serious knee injury that required extensive surgery and rehabilitation.

With Bridgewater now reportedly off the market, the Dolphins are expected to turn their attention to former Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor, or to a pivot in the draft, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
