Floyd Mayweather Jr. received $41.5 million guaranteed for his 2013 fight against Canelo Alvarez, and he could be in for an even bigger payday if he comes out of retirement for a rematch, according to Oscar De La Hoya.

"First of all, Floyd is retired so there is no fight to make. But if Floyd did want to come back, he should stop fighting fighters that are two weight divisions smaller than him," De La Hoya told TMZ Sports. "If Floyd Mayweather decides to come back, a fight with him and Canelo could be a $1.5-billion fight."

Alvarez, who's set to face Daniel Jacobs on May 4, has expressed interest in another fight against Mayweather.

"I would love (revenge), but he is a retired boxer who comes and goes," Alvarez said on ESPN's "SportsCenter" in December. "He is taking care of his own things. We know how he is, but if there is a possibility and he wants to return to boxing and he wants to make this fight, I would love it. For boxing, it would be great, and he would give boxing something worth watching. Lately, the only thing he has done in boxing is lower the credibility of the sport with the fights he has fought. It would be good to have a rematch with him."

While Mayweather continues to insist he's retired, he did tell TMZ recently that he has several exhibition bouts lined up for 2019.
