Justin Thomas calls rule changes 'terrible'

Justin Thomas continued to criticize the new rules of golf, taking an unsolicited shot at the changes when asked about Brooks Koepka's new level of honesty.

"(Brooks) is definitely not causing issues by any means and I feel I’m very similar," Thomas said Wednesday at the Honda Classic. "There’s no reason for me to sit up here and tell you guys I think the (changes to the rules of golf) are great because I don't, I think they're terrible."

His issue isn't with any specific rule change, as Thomas doesn't believe any of the revisions improved golf.

“Pretty much all of them seemed like they didn’t better the game, to me,” Thomas added in a follow-up with Golf.com's Dylan Dethier. “I mean, the ball-dropping thing is weird, it doesn’t make sense. The tapping spike marks thing down - I understand that, but I think it’s a great amateur rule. I just think as a whole they just didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.”

Earlier this season, the 25-year-old took to Twitter when Denny McCarthy was penalized for caddie alignment at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He called the penalty "mind-blowing" and urged the USGA to change the "ridiculous" rule, which they did days after.

Even golf's governing bodies have contradicting views about the new rules. R&A's head Martin Slumbers said the rollout hasn't gone as smoothly as he'd hoped, whereas USGA's Mike Davis called the new rules a huge success.
