Raiders GM believes Carr is 'franchise quarterback'
Oakland Raiders general manager Mike Mayock had high praise for quarterback Derek Carr during the first day of the NFL Scouting Combine.
"I think Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback," Mayock told reporters Wednesday, according to USA Today's Mike Jones. "Is it a coach and GM's job to always keep your eye out for ways to improve the position? Yes. But it's really hard to improve on Derek Carr."
The general manager added that the team believes it's "pretty good at quarterback" with backup AJ McCarron behind Carr.
Carr will earn $19.9 million in base salary in 2019, which became fully guaranteed Feb. 6. He set career highs with 4,049 yards and a 68.9 completion percentage last season, his first under head coach Jon Gruden.
Oakland currently holds three picks in the first round of April's draft: No. 4, No. 24, and No. 27.
