The San Francisco 49ers placed the franchise tag on veteran kicker Robbie Gould, which keeps him off the free-agent market, the team announced Tuesday.
Kickers are projected to earn around $5 million under the franchise tag in 2019, though the NFL has yet to announce tender values for each position.
Gould, 36, has spent the last two seasons in San Francisco following a one-year stint with the New York Giants in 2016 and an 11-year tenure with the Chicago Bears before that.
He converted 33 of his 34 field-goal attempts this past season, with his longest make coming from 53 yards.
Gould is the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history, behind only Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens, according to Pro Football Reference.
