Report: Harper, Machado waiting each other out

Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are in the midst of a free-agent standoff, with neither player wanting to be the first to sign their contract, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Rosenthal notes they have yet to be offered a big enough contract, with both seeking a $300-million deal. However, Harper and Machado both reportedly want to be the last superstar available on the market.

Harper, represented by Scott Boras, is reportedly seeking a record-breaking deal in excess of Giancarlo Stanton's 13-year, $325-million contract. The 26-year-old is a former first overall pick and National League MVP. The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres have shown recent interest in the outfielder.

Machado, meanwhile, is represented by Dan Lozano of MVP Sports Group. The four-time All-Star is capable of playing third base and shortstop, and is coming off a career year where he authored a .905 OPS with 37 home runs between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Aside from the Giants and Padres, the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees have all shown varying degrees of interest in the two free agents.
