Report: NFL looking into Dolphins' reporting of Tannehill's injury
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was a surprise inactive when final injury reports were submitted Sunday morning.
The late designation caught fans, bettors, and likely the Dolphins' Week 6 opponent, the Chicago Bears, off guard. As a result, the NFL will review the Dolphins' handling of Tannehill's injury status, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
The league will review whether the team was attempting to circumvent league rules on injury designations.
Tannehill was labeled a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday. However, head coach Adam Gase admitted after the team's victory over the Bears that backup Brock Osweiler took some first-team snaps Thursday. Tannehill was designated as a limited participant in practice Friday and subsequently garnered a questionable tag.
Gase said that his starting quarterback was sore when the week started and that his injury became progressively worse starting Thursday, eventually resulting in his late scratch for Sunday's game against the Bears.
