Brees breaks NFL's all-time passing yards record

Drew Brees is the NFL's new record holder for the most career passing yards.

The New Orleans Saints' star quarterback needed just 201 passing yards Monday night against the Washington Redskins to surpass Peyton Manning's all-time record of 71,940, set in 2015.

Brees broke the record on a 62-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith in the second quarter.

The one-time Super Bowl champion added the record to his long list of achievements, including the most completions and 300-yard games.

Brees had 12,238 passing yards as a member of the then-San Diego Chargers from 2001-05, but his assault on the NFL record books truly began when he joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006.

Paired with an offensive mastermind in head coach Sean Payton, Brees produced an NFL-record five 5,000-yard passing seasons. No other quarterback has more than one such campaign.
