Report: Jets contact Steelers about Bell trade

Aaron Doster / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets have contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers to express interest in trading for running back Le'Veon Bell, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

The Jets haven't yet submitted a concrete offer, according to the report, but are convinced the Steelers are finally willing to part with their disgruntled star.

Bell hasn't suited up for Pittsburgh yet this season because of his disdain for the franchise tag, which he received in consecutive offseasons. He won't be allowed to negotiate the long-term contract he seeks until the offseason - regardless of whether he remains a Steeler or gets traded elsewhere.

The 26-year-old Bell has finished among the top five in rushing in three of the previous four seasons. He's also one of the top pass-catching tailbacks in the NFL.

The trade deadline is Oct. 30.
