Bills trade McCarron to Raiders for 2019 5th-round pick

The Buffalo Bills traded quarterback AJ McCarron to the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 fifth-round pick, the team confirmed Saturday.

McCarron was widely expected to compete for the Bills' starting job against 2018 first-round pick Josh Allen and second-year pro Nathan Peterman.

The 27-year-old will now battle EJ Manuel for the Raiders' backup role, with Derek Carr firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback.

McCarron, who was selected in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014, played sparingly during his first four NFL seasons. He signed a two-year, $10-million contract with the Bills in March.

As a result of the trade, the Bills will incur $2.1 million in dead money for the 2018 season, and $2 million in dead money for the 2019 campaign, while the Raiders will pay McCarron $900,000 for the upcoming year, Rodak reports.
