The Washington Redskins inked running back Adrian Peterson to a one-year deal worth $1.015 million, or the minimum amount for a 12-year veteran, ESPN's Field Yates reports, citing a source.

The deal comes a year after Peterson signed with the New Orleans Saints for two years and $7 million.

This time around, the future Hall of Famer likely favored a starting opportunity in the twilight of his career over money. Peterson has earned more than $98 million in total cash in his previous 11 seasons, according to Spotrac.

Peterson's salary for 2018 ranks 29th among running backs, a spot he shares with fellow veterans Darren Sproles and Frank Gore, who also signed for the veteran's minimum to continue his career with the Miami Dolphins.
